ocr: SWAN SOME RESULTS IN A NUISHELL During the first year of operation, SWAN observed the full-sky maps of the interplanetary Lyman-alpha intensity three times per week. Special observations of the geocorona were done soon atrer the launch, since the geocorona was nearer to the satellite then. SWAN has shown that the ionization rate by the solar wind is higher in the ecliptic plane. Because SWAN can observe relatively faint comets especially when they are near the Sun and cannot be observed from the ground, SWAN has detected some new comets.
